Project Summary: The has built a new data center to replace the currently rented third-party data center. The Immigration Department is the latest and largest IT system to migrate to a new data center. There are around 1100 IT equipment & assets and 40 racks relocated with 8 waves during July 2023 to May 2024.

Project process :We start by conducting an equipment inventory, cable tracing, port mapping, labeling, and photo documentation. Once the data collection is completed, the new data center will prepare the new connections. After the new cables and power connections are implemented, we arrange for site checking and preparation before each wave of relocation.

During the relocation, we will follow the detailed plan to pack the equipment into assigned studio boxes with unique locks. We will deploy two or three teams at the existing data centers and the destination data centers to minimize the client system downtime and ensure all HSM equipment can resume service within 2 hours.

After the relocation, we will clean up the data center, tidy up the cables, and provide engineering standby support during the user acceptance testing.

Difficulties & Problems and How We Conquered Them: There are many different versions of documents between the client and their vendors. This has led to issues with the cabling plan. We provide a professional service to troubleshoot the cabling patching between equipment and the rack, as well as between racks.

Coordinating the transportation of equipment and assets to the new location posed logistical challenges. The Immigration Department has special requirements for transportation. There are 3 possible routes from the existing data center to the new data center. The commander will arrange the transportation route accordingly. We assigned two or three engineer teams between the existing and new data centers to ensure we could unmount and mount the HSM equipment within 2 hours. This was a significant challenge for the transportation logistics. We needed to thoroughly prepare to successfully fulfill the Immigration Department's request.

For the latest relocation, we need to clean up the existing data center in Falling and relocate 120 equipment and 40 racks with no cooling and PAU system environment, as the data center is ready for a rebuild. We have arranged for electrical workers to disconnect the power for all PDUs, and we have made thorough preparations to shorten the relocation period. We have provided professional services to remove the patching panels and related cables between the racks and cabling ladders.
基于移民局最新的搬迁安排，我们需要清理现有的数据中心的设备，并搬迁120台设备和40个没有冷却系统的机柜，因为该数据中心已准备好重建。我们安排了电工做好电源处理的准备工作，包括拆除机架和布线梯之间的修补板和相关电缆，以此缩短搬迁的时间。
The result we achieve :We achieved the appreciation and endorsement from the Immigration Department, Kyndryl, and HKBN. We won the contract to handle the relocation of phase 2 production equipment to the new Immigration headquarters in Tseung Kwan O. Approximately 2,300 production equipment will be relocated in 10 waves from June 2024 to May 2025.
